Report indicates failure of GDPR enforcement in Ireland

Sep, 13, 2023 Hi-network.com

According to a new report from the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has become the bottleneck for enforcing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) against large technological companies. Approximately 98% of cases of European significance that were referred to the DPC are unresolved. The report shows that the Spanish data protection authority delivered ten times more draft decisions than the DPC, despite a significantly smaller budget. The Financial Times reports that the Irish reticence to police Big Tech has been criticised by several other European countries, including France, Spain and Italy.
