India excludes Huawei from 5G trials

According to a Reuters report, the Indian government announced that mobile carriers will be allowed to carry out 5G trials with equipment manufacturers including Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung, not naming Huawei among the participants. Major mobile carriers, Reliance Industries, Jio Infocomm, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, will conduct the trials along with the state-run MTNL in urban, rural, and semi-urban regions. While Chinese firms, like Huawei and ZTE, have not been named to participate in the trials, they have not been banned from supplying 5G equipment to operators.

Government officials told in March that the government will likely ban mobile operators from using 5G equipment made by Huawei under new procurement rules, which are due to come into force in June. The statement noted that after June 15, operators can only buy certain types of equipment from state-approved "trusted sources" and that the government could potentially create a list of banned suppliers.
