Image hosting platform Imgur will ban 'nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content' on its platform starting 15 May. Imgur explained that explicit content constitutes a risk to the company's community and its business, and updating the terms of service to forbid such content protects the future of their community.
Artistic nudity will still be allowed on the platform, but they acknowledged that there might be issues in uploading certain content at the early stages of recalibrating automated detection systems. Additionally, Imgur will also remove old and unused photos that are not tied to an account.
Apple and Alphabet have recently raised similar concerns about Amazon's content moderation policies after learning that sexually explicit photographs could be accessed by children on a popular Kindle app.
