In a class-action case Brown et al v Google LLC et al filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California the claimants accuse Google and its parent company Alphabet of invading users' privacy by tracking their Internet use, despite using browsers set to "private" or "incognito" mode. The tracking was supposed to be undertaken since 1 June 2016 via Google Analytics, Google Ad, and cell phone applications. The lawsuit seeks at least USD 5 billion in damages.
Google's spokesman Jose Casteneda stated for Reuters that: "As we clearly state each time you open a new incognito tab, websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity."
