The Cyprian Civil Registry and Migration Department has announced that it will issue new types of biometric cards starting August 17. This is in line with EU Regulation 2019/1157 on strengthening security of identity cards to support free movement of people within the region. Citizens with existing cards can use them until their expiration date, when they will be required to take out the new cards.
