US cable groups express concerns over FCC

Jan, 18, 2024 Hi-network.com

US cable organisations expressed concerns about the FCC's anticipated net neutrality rules, urging the Commission to maintain 'reasonable network management' and avoid banning data caps. They argue against classifying broadband as a heavily regulated 'Title II' service, emphasising the need for Congressional involvement. The cable group also highlights potential negative impacts on innovation and investment, fearing a deterrent effect on programs like Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD).

In addition, they advise against regulating rates, unbundling, and making unwarranted distinctions between broadband technologies. The group is particularly wary of 5G network slicing potentially circumventing Open Internet rules. T-Mobile and Nokia share similar concerns, stressing the necessity of clear guidance in the evolving regulatory landscape.
