Government of Niue files redelegation request for .nu

Nov, 13, 2023 Hi-network.com

The government of Niue, a small island in the Pacific, has filed a request with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) for the revocation and redelegation of the .nu country code top-level domain (ccTLD). The ccTLD is currently officially managed by the IUSN Foundation, but the business operations and technical back-end were transferred to the Swedish ccTLD managed IIS in 2013. Niue claims that the IUSN Foundation 'has without any consent of the government of Niue and without any valid agreement since the year 200 acted as the designated manager for ccTLD .nu disregarding Niue law'. The country therefore requests the redelegation of .nu from IUSN to a new manager, approved by the Government of Niue, noting that a process is underway to select a new manager. According to IANA rules, a ccTLD redelegation request needs to obtain the consent of the current ccTLD manager, and in the case of .nu this seems to be a difficult task.
