Cisco Mobility Takes the Frustrations out of Hospital Visits

Nov, 09, 2015 Hi-network.com

Everyone has had the stressful experience of being in a large building and not knowing where they were. Try adding that uncertainty to a hospital visit and see how your blood pressure reacts when you finally find yourself in the doctor's office.

The 10-story, million-square-foot University Health System (UHS) Sky Tower in San Antonio, TX wanted to make sure that patients were able to get from Point A to Point B without a lot of stress. To do so, the hospitalhuddled with Cisco and Cisco Connected Mobility Express partner Etelu to come up with a solution to navigate from one end of the hospital to the other.

With the right amount of Cisco Aironet 3602 Access Points installed around the hospital, UHS already has a robust Cisco wireless network. That wireless network in conjunction with the new Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) solution was able to track visitor location. In addition, the hospital group developed a free mobile app using CMX that was so easy to use that it was quickly adopted by both hospital administration and patients alike.

Armed with the new mobil app, an average of 2,500 people use the wireless network during peak times every day. Since the network and app has been so successful at the SkyTower, UHS is planning on rolling out the solution to its downtown Robert B. Green campus.
