Vodafone Foundation Report on Europe's approach to teaching digital skills

Jul, 06, 2023 Hi-network.com

According to a survey conducted by the Vodafone Foundation, parents in 10 European countries believe that Europe should equalise its approach to teaching digital skills. The survey supports the European Year of Skills, which aims to provide funding for digital education, ensure fair opportunities for youth, and bridge the digital skills divide.

The survey, conducted by IPSOS Germany for Vodafone Foundation and based on responses from 10,000 European parents, shows that while parents are optimistic about the potential of digital technology in education, there are concerns over the quality of digital tools in schools and the need for better support and training for teachers. The survey highlights the importance of ensuring consistency in resources and infrastructure to level up digital skills opportunities for students across Europe.

Other survey results show that:

  • 85% of parents surveyed believe their child's career prospects depend highly on digital skills.
  • 78% of parents reported that children could access digital tools for learning at school.
  • Only 59% of schools provide their pupils with a device to access online education from home.
  • 73% of parents would support European standards for teaching digital skills.
  • 85% of parents believe digital literacy should be a key learning objective at school.
