The US Senator Edward J. Markey issued a letter to inquire of President Donald Trump about the creation of a national COVID-19 surveillance system, as reported by POLITICO. In the letter, Senator Markey pointed out the privacy implications of the surveillance system that the White House Coronavirus Task Force is considering. Seven questions that he requested to be answered by April 16 inquires the project's scope and duration, who (the federal or private entities) is responsible for maintaining the data, whether the data collection will be terminated when the COVID-19 crisis is over, how the administration plans to protect marginalised population (e.g. racial minorities, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals) against unique threats that health privacy invasions pose for them.
