Ahead of the parliamentary elections in Ethiopia, the country experienced a rise in online misinformation. Misleading content includes fake videos of the Ethiopia Prime Minister as well as claims of a possible nuclear attack against Egypt. In response to the rise of fake news, Facebook has decided to shutdown those accounts sharing fictitious and inaccurate information. Despite relatively low access to social media in general, the use of networking platforms increases around the time of elections.
