The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have announced a strategic collaboration to address key challenges in Nigeria's digital landscape. This partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and seeks to enhance identity management, payment systems, and data exchange.

The initiative centers on integrating Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to fortify data security and streamline digital interactions, fostering innovation and economic growth across sectors.

With plans to establish a technical working group led by NITDA's Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, this partnership signals a significant step forward in Nigeria's digital journey, promising transformative impacts on the nation's digital economy and societal advancement.

Why does it matter?

According to the UN E-Government Survey 2022, Nigeria ranks 140 out of 193 countries in the E-Government Development Index (EGDI), measuring its readiness to use technology for public services. While Nigeria's EGDI is below the global average, there has been a slight improvement from its 2020 ranking of 141. EGDI assesses a country's preparedness to employ technology for public service delivery.
