In the USA, a bicameral bipartisan group of lawyers launched the H.R. 5376, the Eliminate Network Distribution of Child Exploitation Act (END Child Exploitation Act). The bill seeks to extend the required time period for technology companies to preserve information about child sexual abuse images they report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Currently technology companies are required to retain information and images for 90 days after they are reported to the NCMEC. However, often three months is inadequate for investigative processes. The END Child Exploitation Act doubles this time frame to 180 days, and if required, companies can legally retain the material longer.
