The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) published a report that provides a framework to assess whether a nation's science, technology and innovation (STI) policies are in line with its development objectives. Titled A Framework for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Reviews -Harnessing Innovation for Sustainable Development the report addresses the issue of how STI can promote a transformative STI policymaking and hence a more inclusive and environmentally sustainable outcomes of development. The framework is a revised version of the methodology that was used by the UNCTAD over the past two decades to conduct STI policy reviews to governments to help them develop their national capabilities and improve innovation and competitiveness. 'It calls for commitment to an inclusive process involving a broad range of social actors. It also requires flexibility in tailoring the process to each country's specific concerns, priorities, development trajectories and policy needs,' highlighted director, Division on Technology and Logistics Shamika Sirimanne.
