South African court postpones ruling on Amazon HQ building project

Jan, 21, 2023 Hi-network.com

A South African court has postponed a much awaited ruling following an objection by a group of Khoi and San natives on Amazon's African headquarters. Global technology giant Amazon plans to be the anchor tenant in Cape Town development consisting of a hotel, offices, and homes. In the lawsuit, objectors decry the location of the development, arguing that it is a sacred site. In court papers quoted by Reuters they state that the proposed site lies at the confluence of two rivers, while blocking their view to a part of the Table Mountain known as Lion's Head, as well. Both sites are used in sacred rituals. The site is also historically significant and borders a UNESCO world heritage designated area.
