According to CNN, Mercedes-Benz is using location sensors to locate and repossess vehicles in the UK when drivers fall behind on payment, raising privacy concerns and the possible launch of a governmental investigation. The use of tracking sensors for repossession purposes was first reported by the Sun. Tracking devices were initially installed in the event of a crash, to facilitate the location of the vehicle and emergency intervention. A spokeswoman for Mercedes argued hat drivers agree to tracking when they sign financing agreements with the carmaker, and that action is taken to locate a car only if the terms of the contract are breached by customers.
