YouTube has been fined$170 million for violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). YouTube will pay Federal Trade Commission (FTC)$136 million in penalties and a fine of$34 million to New York state.
Youtube is charged for collecting data from children under the age of 13 without parental consent and using the data to advertise to children, that is in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA).
As per the agreement with FTC, Google will have to create a new system where content for children will be labeled, ensure all the vidoes are covered by COPPA and be more transparent about data gathering.
