TikTok launches initiative to combat climate change misinformation

Apr, 19, 2023 Hi-network.com

On the eve of Earth Day, TikTok announced a series of initiatives to combat harmful climate change misinformation and promote reliable information throughout its user community.

Starting on 21 April, the platform will enhance the enforcement of a new policy that targets climate change misinformation that contradicts established scientific consensus. This includes removing content that denies climate change or its contributing factors. Independent fact-checking partners will work with TikTok to ensure the accuracy of the content.

In addition, a new search feature will be introduced that directs people to reliable and trustworthy sources of information on climate change when searching for related content. The UN was consulted to provide authoritative information for this feature.
