Feb, 08, 2024 Hi-network.com

Hyundai Motor Europe, the European division of Hyundai Motor Company headquartered in Germany, recently fell victim to a ransomware attack perpetrated by the Black Basta group. The group claimed to have stolen approximately 3 terabytes of corporate data.

In response to inquiries, Hyundai Motor Europe stated, "Trust and security are fundamental to our business, and our priority is the protection of our customers, employees, investors, and partners." The company confirmed ongoing investigations into the unauthorised access by a third party to a segment of its network. Hyundai also emphasised its collaboration with external cybersecurity and legal experts, along with notifying relevant authorities.

While the specifics of the attack were not disclosed by Hyundai, it was revealed that the Black Basta ransomware group orchestrated the operation. Evidence obtained by BleepingComputer showed lists of allegedly stolen folders from various Windows domains, including those belonging to KIA Europe. These folders reportedly contained data from departments such as legal, sales, human resources, accounting, IT, and management.

This isn't the first cybersecurity incident involving Hyundai, as the company had previously disclosed a data breach in April 2023 affecting Italian and French car owners and individuals who booked test drives. Additionally, Hyundai MEA's X account was recently compromised to promote sites with crypto wallet drainers.
